The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU), the counterpart of Belgium's Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC), issued a statement on 4 March 2022 on fighting at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant around 1am. As a result, a fire broke out in an outbuilding on the plant site.

The emergency services were able to extinguish the fire which had no impact on the safety of the facilities. No change has been reported in radiation levels at the plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna continues to monitor the situation closely and remains in close contact with Ukraine. Like the Ukrainian regulator, the IAEA continues to provide regular reports on the situation. You can find this information on the IAEA website: https://www.iaea.org/

With regard to Belgium, FANC is monitoring the situation together with the National Crisis Center (NCCN). FANC also continues to monitor the situation via its international information network. FANC continuously measures radioactivity on Belgian territory through its own measuring stations of the TELERAD network. At this time, no abnormal increase in radioactivity has been measured.
